We planned on writing a lengthy piece about why Secretary of State Trey Grayson shouldn’t run for U.S. Senate in 2010 but with all the rumors currently floating, it’s probably best to keep it short and to the point.
Trey shouldn’t run for Senate this go-round because he isn’t as experienced as Jack Conway and just can’t beat him in a general election. If he runs against him, Grayson risks splitting his own support base in half and cutting his fundraising by nearly 50%. Because both he and Conway share support and financial bases. Politically, they’re on the same side of nearly every issue.
And with Grayson in the beginning of his political career, is it wise to put himself up against such a machine that consists of some of his own people? Is he willing to throw everything away if he loses? We don’t think it’s a good idea.
Trey should wait it out. Run for Attorney General and then for Governor and continue building up his bi-partisan network.
Whether you like him or not, Trey is a rising star in the Commonwealth. We, as a state, can’t afford to lose something like that. And running him against the star of the Democratic Party would only serve to hurt Kentucky.

Grayson couldn’t beat Bunning–and Conway will lose big to Bunning

Agree with your post Jake.
I’d also add that Grayson needs to dump Scott Jennings as his advisor. Their association is embarassing for Grayson.

Seriously doubt Trey would align himself with someone involved in one of the largest scandals in the past decade.

You should call Trey and ask him about Scott. He’s been calling big wig Republicans for the past week asking for their support for him to primary Jim Bunning and boasting about taking all his political advice from Scott. Maybe you don’t know Trey as well as you think that you do.

Jennifer Moore has also spent the past week telling everyone under the sun every negative thing she can think about when it comes to Trey.
And if you had legit information, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t have to hide behind an anonymous web service.

I accidentally posted my opinion on this in the thread about reporting power outages….

This is one where the Dems and I agree, if Trey (or anyone else) primaries against Bunning, they will lose. Most likely they will lose against Bunning, because average Republicans in this closed-primary stand behind our man. But, peradventure Trey did defeat the Senator, a divided GOP would not be enough to carry him once the Democrats who encouraged him to run went back to their “man”.

You wrote here about DINO/RINOs.
No, not everything is black and white.
Trey Grayson and Jack Conway share the same political base and the same donor base. Because they’re realists and are more non-partisan than partisan– which is were the majority of Americans are.

Haha. I love it that Republicans in NEW JERSEY take everything I say so seriously.
If I remember correctly, your man was indicted and your dad was shit-canned for being an idiot with the press…

Are you saying that “John Drake” is Brett Hall’s son?
