I assume those are the same state employees Fletcher was fired for committing crimes during their hiring, right? Because you’re right, he did hire a lot of those illegally.

I haven’t heard anyone who will ever vote Republican again after what Fletcher did to us.

And three days is much less than the permanent furlough that Beshear has thankfully given to the unqualified, lazy Fletcher non-merit picks under this administration, so that’s fine with me.

Hughes’ money is the reason he’s the GOP candidate. Fletcher won most of the precincts in this district against Beshear so the GOP isn’t worried about his Fletcher ties. These tax issues could be a different story, but as long as Hughes keeps pushing the anti-choice BS, he should win in this very conservative district.

You gonna enjoy that three-day unpaid furlough your boy Beshear is gonna make you take? Didja know that he’s asking for permission to lay you, and your fellow patronage hack hires, off for up to 24 days?

Amazing how many state employees I’ve heard say they regret voting for your boy Beshear and they had it better under Fletcher.

God knows he needs the money. In addition to saving money by not paying his taxes, his opponent is the indicted and pardoned co-conspirator of Ernie Fletcher, and he has a buttload of his own money he’s pouring into the race. From this post, it would seem a good bit of Hughes’ money must have come from dodging taxes.

I wasn’t trying to make a comparison between the types of tax issues each man has…I’m just pointing out the obvious irony that two men who seek positions related to taxes and taxation…both seem to be having problems abiding by the rules of the very organizations they hope to work at.
I see humor in the irony of both of their predicaments.

In all likelihood, Geitner has numerous and diverse sources of income, his tax preparation has to be a monumental undertaking. In all fairness, I can understand how something got away from him…it’s still ironic and still funny though.
Hughes….Really…property taxes?
How he missed a property tax bill, I don’t know. I can’t imagine the municipality would fail to send the bill.
Hell, they still remeber to bil me every year for a ’67 Pontiac that sits in my barn…I’d wager they sent the bills to him.

What would be an interesting cross check would be to see if his company, while failing to pay taxes…in fact realized the depreciation on the properties…recognizing the deduction, but not paying the taxes.
I doubt it would be attainable, but it would also be interesting to see if the business posted the expense for taxes and the unemployment expense, but didn’t pay them. That would be dicey.

It’s not at all like Geithner not paying his taxes. His were allegedly taxes he was supposed to take care of from the IMF/WMF which U.S. employers take care of.

Stupid, of course. But not the same as having the type of liens Hughes had.

Kind of funny really…
Sort of like Geitner not paying his taxes.

I could understand an oversight if Hughes’ business was in something other than asset management. I mean seriously, when you call your business ‘Asset Management’ you’d think that managing assets and liabilities with regard to taxation obligations would be your forte’.

I’ll bet that makes his customers and clients feel all warm and fuzzy…knowing that they are NOT one of his two priorities.

They weren’t issues he was unaware of.

As someone who has worked for Mr. Hughes I can say Mr. Hughes has two priorities; paying his employees and paying his taxes…If he knew there was a tax lien, or a tax liability, he would have paid it. He would never intentionally fail to pay any tax due by him.
