Here’s your Mike Duncan, Kentucky, attacking George W. Bush over his handling of the Iraq war. Seriously. Video and everything. [Huffington Post]
David Williams is right. CATS testing is a total waste of time and money. And so is KERA, obviously. Kentucky schools teach toward nothing but year-end testing. Every year. Maybe we should just teach for a change? [H-L]
Failed to report it? The investigators were made very aware of it by me throughout the entire 18-month investigation. Shackleford already knows this, as I’ve told him in the past. He’s fanning the flames by suggesting I’m slandering anybody. Investigators were aware that Stumbo & friends tried to silence folks during the Steve Henry investigation. It’s not a secret. [More Hype]
It doesn’t make any sense to cut legislator pay by 10%. It saves the Commonwealth nothing. What we should do, however, is stop paying people like Larry Clark to drive their company-paid car back and forth to Frankfort every day. It’s illegal, so why do we continue to allow it? [C-J]
So, what will it be? Will Jody Richards beat Greg Stumbo? Commenters on Diane Brumback’s site sure want him to. [Kentucky Women here & here]
Three Blue Grass Airport employees charged $4,500 at a Texas strip club. On an airport credit card. Former director Michael Gobb was one of those three. Imagine that. Gobb also had employees use airport cards to buy expensive electronics, artwork and meals for him. So fancy. [H-L]

For the record; I was never told nor do I recall any conversations with Jake in regards to the AG, Greg Stumbo, pressuring anyone to shred documents. I am glad he told investigators, that means that Jake done the right thing.

I can publish the emails exchanged, if you’d like.
Was an exchange between you, Diane Brumback and myself.

Send them to me I would like to see them, if you did tell me, thats fine, I just do not remember it. Which account did you send it to?

I’d like to see those emails.

They don’t contain anything I haven’t said publicly for quite a while. So, it’d be a waste of your time to see them, “Carter”

Jake — any new buzz on the House Leadership races this morning?
7 jake // Jan 6, 2009 at 9:53 am
DemGirl – I think everyone is either exhausted from last-minute vote buying (I kid!) or they’re just ready for it all to be over.
Richards, Jenkins, Stacy and that crew seem to be calm and collected this morning. Richards is the most confident, Jenkins plays peacemaker by saying she’ll be fine with the outcome no matter what because she’s run an honest race. Haven’t spoken with any of them since late yesterday.
From what I hear from the Governor’s office, folks are busy making calls for Stumbo and Clark, they’ve backed off Damron quite a bit. (Yes, Gubnuh’s folks, I know you’re making calls. So stop complaining when I talk about it.)
The Stumbo folks I’ve spoken with this morning seem resigned to the fact that Richards will win– but that’s the only race that anyone is bothering to predict.
Big rumor is that if Clark loses his spot in leadership, he’ll soon resign and take a job within the Beshear admin. Not sure how reliable that is, since it’s coming from members of the House (and you know how they are, ha), but it’d be a good move for Louisville. He needs to be replaced.
The election is at 3:00 today.

I can just hear CNN in a couple of months from now if Stumbo gets it. Kentucky will be the laughing stock of the nation just like Illinois. Thats even if just half of the crap being publicly stated about Stumbo is true.
And I don’t see any libel suits by Stumbo to prove otherwise. Nor any other Stumbo public statements counteracting whats been said about him.
No wonder Conway is over his head with the mess left to him by Stumbo in the Attorney Generals office.

Jinx – You’re right. Regardless of the crap I give Conway, he was left with a nightmarish situation in the OAG. Primarily because Greg was never at work. There’s only so much your staff can do when you’re not around.
And half the Stumbo appointees were never around. Like Danny Ross. At one point after Danny was moved to the Governor’s office, I called the OAG to speak with him (okay, I confess, it was because I knew the receptionist didn’t know who he was and I wanted to hear it for myself)… and the receptionist had no clue who he was and had never seen him before.

Jake, thank you SO much for that update. I really appreciate you answering my questions and sharing your information!
If you have time for another question, I was wondering if you know and would be able to post a list of the house members that have come out publicly for one speaker candidate or the other.
11 jake // Jan 6, 2009 at 10:40 am
A House member PUBLICLY supporting someone? HAHAHA! That would require integrity and balls, something only a few people in the State House happen to possess.
Publicly supporting Stumbo & the hate ticket: Bob Damron, Larry Clark, Jim Gooch, Tommy Thompson, Kelly Flood
Publicly supporting Richards & common sense: Joni Jenkins, John Will Stacy, Rocky Adkins, Mary Lou Marzian and the rest of the folks with a lick of sense.
I’m sure there are a few others. But mostly, no one has the balls to publicly admit who/what they support.

How right you are!!
I thought at least a few (that weren’t actually running for a leadership post) had come out in support of one or the other, but I could be getting erroneous info.
I DIDN’T know Rocky had actually come out in support of Jody. Interesting!

when does the leadership election actually happen? i.e., when we gonna know who won?
14 TJ // Jan 6, 2009 at 11:08 am
I believe 3:00 p.m. is the meeting
15 jake // Jan 6, 2009 at 11:09 am
Yup. As noted above, slated to be about 3:00 P.M.
16 Republican // Jan 6, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Well, if Stumbo had actually done his job instead of trying to run Ernie Fletcher out of office…
17 jake // Jan 6, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Repub – that only accounts for like 0.05% of the work Greg could have been doing in office. Let’s get real.
