While Rick is thankful for, you know, meaningful things…
We are thankful for things that actually matter. Like hot tubs, schadenfreude and pumpkin spice-flavored things (in that order). Oh, we’re also thankful for whomever invented unsweetened soy milk and sweet mint gum.
The end.
Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday feasting. We’re preparing to watch Swiss Family Robinson, The Great Escape and Rosemary’s Baby. After we look through all the coupons in the paper, of course. Gobble gobble!

The summer after Walt Disney World (its official name) opened in Florida my mother took me, my brother, my cousin Sissie from Frankfort, my other cousin Christie from Chattanooga, and my Aunt Dorothy from Lexington (who was in truth my grandmother’s aunt), and we all piled into the car and went south to see the new wondrous pre-Epcot, pre-hotels, pre-resorts, pre-anything there but the park and Interstate 4, attraction. I was 11 years old, so most of your readers weren’t yet born.
We went to Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, St. Augustine, NASA (at what was then called Cape Kennedy), and Orlando. I don’t remember a lot from that trip but I do remember the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse clearly. It was in “The Magic Kingdom” part of the park. I don’t know if it is still there or not because I have never been back. But I remember it as one of the coolest things in the place.
My brother and I had a treehouse in our backyard, as well as one “back in the woods” where the northbound ramp to I-65 from eastbound Snyder Freeway now passes. Our treehouses were about 5 foot square and maybe 12 steps up off the ground.
That treehouse in Florida still impresses me these 37 years later. I hope you enjoyed the movie. I certainly enjoyed the treehouse.

Turkey, ham, football and bumper pool, what a day, but I’m glad it (and that crazy Black Friday) are finally over.

I’m thankful I don’t have bumper pool.
