He’s back! Dr. Tinycat returns! And don’t forget the original. (It’s Thanksgiving and, yes, this is what we do on the holidays… and every other day. It’s called wasting time. [Dr. Tinycat Returns & The Original]
This is quite possibly the best story we’ve read all week. Every line is comedy gold. [Best Story Ever]
The bid rigging case isn’t going anywhere. Keep on hoping and praying that it’ll just disappear. [H-L]
Who opposes mining in more healthy ways? Who opposes at least attempting to be decent environmental stewards? How is livestock runoff, urban sprawl and construction worse than, oh, not doing anything remotely responsible with mountaintop removal waste? Jody Richards and Rocky Adkins are two of those legislators. [C-J]
Crit Luallen’s office has completed its 2008 audit of the Kentucky Lottery. Its fiscal year ended in June. Some of the highlights: 2008 operating expenses were a record $778.2 million compared to $744.2 million in 2007. Scratch-off sales increased $31.3 million. Gross profit was $225.8 compared to $232 in 2007, decrease due to increase in prize payouts. Operating expenses declined $900K to $37.3 million. Payments to the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship programs were $192.1 million compared to $196.3 million in 2007. [Auditor]
Despite what the Governor’s office says publicly, it’s not her choice to leave. And having input on her successor? HAHA. She’s now telling people she’s sticking around long enough to attend inaugural balls. And running for higher office? We’d love to see that. Because there’s not a member of the press who disbelieves us and/or believes what the Beshear administration is feeding them. [Politicker]
This CPE leadership search is turning into a nightmare. We hear Michael F. Adams, former Centre College President, is now in the lead amongst members of the Council. [H-L]
Wait for it. Remember that kid at the University of the Cumberlands who attempted to extort other students after breaking in to their email accounts? Now he’s facing child pornography charges. Creepy. You’ve just gotta read the story. [C-J]

The best line of the Humpin’ Hawkeyes fans story was: “Walsh was released to his girlfriend and Feldman to her husband, police said.”
Wonder what they talked about on the way home?
Could be worse, Iowa at least won the game.

In re Richards and Adkins:
I almost screamed out loud in Highland Coffee when I read in the paper that Jody, Rocky, and 18 other leges — all DEMS — had stood up for the rights of coal companies to throw their waste wherever they want, even in our streams.
We finally get someone in leadership — Beshear — to actually say out loud that perhaps Big Coal could, you know, try to clean up a little bit … and Jody Richards takes the Gov out at the knees in less than a week.
I’m tempted to spend some time in the Ky Election Finance database and see where the coal money shows up.

Just as Jody shows he has some leadership backbone, he caves and does this.
But I guess it’s understandable. He has to try to out-Republican Greg Stumbo now– even though he’s got twice as many votes as Greg.
Fail.

CPE leadership search: All very interesting–does anyone know why the Gov. wanted Brad Cowgill out. It looks as though the ‘national search’ the governor wanted has remained in Kentucky and is not going well. What’s up?

I find it quite presumptuous for people whose livelihoods don’t depend on the coal industry to sit in “Highland Coffee” and debase the intellect and motives of legislators the likes of Rocky Adkins and Jody Richards. The hyperbole about doing nothing “remotely responsible” is not only counterproductive to reasonable dialogue, but is simple false. Has it ever occurred to people that maybe those 20 legislators, who were duly elected by their constituents, are reflecting the will of the people? That’s compared with the likes of Rep. John Yarmuth whose only relation with coal are the cheap electricity rates that generate power for the likes of Ford and UPS which employ his constituents.

How do you know his livelihood doesn’t depend on coal?
Rocky’s motives are pretty clear. He’s employed by the coal industry and makes mega coal industry bucks. He’s wealthier than anyone in his district by a million times over. That’s what his motives are.

I find it interesting that President Adams is leading in the hunt for the CPE.
President Adams has a pretty well-known reputation (at least well-known in academe). He’s good at some things, personal skills is not one of them. But based on his reputation, I find it interesting that the CPE might be leaning that way. It would really shake things up in Frankfort. Maybe that would be good and perhaps that is why he might be in the lead.

To answer BillyBudd:
Because Cowgill and Fletcher were close friends. And Beshear and his brand of Dems are petty and vindictive like that.
Gotta give Obama credit for leaving Gates as DOD secretary. That’s really surprising and shocking.
No way Beshear would have done something similar. Yes, he left some of the Fletcher administration non-merits in place, but those people never had any loyalty to Fletcher.
