Alben Barkley’s Family Against Mitch McConnell

September 26th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Mitch McConnell really loves to pretend that Alben Barkley’s family support him. Unfortunately, Mitch McConnell doesn’t live in the reality-based community.

Check this message Barkley’s grandson that the Kentucky Democratic Party sent out on behalf of the Lunsford campaign today:

Conversation: An important message from Clay Barkley, Great-Grandson of former Vice President and Kentuckian, Alben Barkley

Friends,

I wanted to share my support of Bruce Lunsford, who is running for United States Senate. As a life-long Kentuckian and the great-grandson of former Senate Majority Leader and Vice-President Alben Barkley, I know this election is critical to the future of Kentucky and the United States of America.

This election is especially crucial for us, the young professionals, students, and future leaders of the Commonwealth. After all, we and our children will inherit the problems manufactured by the last eight years of reckless management of this great country.

Read the rest after the jump…

It is our responsibility to deliver a new set of leaders in 2008 that are capable and willing to get us back on the right track.

I don’t have to tell you how bad things have gotten. It is on your television screens and in your living rooms each night – financial upheaval, sky-rocketing gas prices, and unaffordable health care. I know that parents worry about their children’s futures, and senior citizens about their fixed incomes. Our futures will be profoundly affected by decisions made in Washington over the next four years.

My fiancée and I are making plans for our future – looking for places to live and work- just like you. These kinds of decisions are daunting, especially in the face of recent economic developments.

Bruce Lunsford represents the chance to take a new direction, to find a new way forward. He speaks passionately about what this race means to his children and grandchildren. It is an opportunity to counteract the rising problems we all face. He will be an independent voice for real solutions for Kentucky and America.

Mitch McConnell has no intention of helping us in the future. He only plays such a character in his television advertisements. His constituents consist of lobbyists, big companies, and foreign citizens who line his campaign and foundation pockets. He is squarely at the center of the broken process we have in Washington, D.C – a process that rewards special interests at the peril of us all. Bruce will be an independent actor for the benefit of us.

Bruce can’t win this alone. He needs our help.

Sincerely,

Clay Barkley

Go Clay! Way to stick it to Mitch for pretending that your whole family is in his corner.

After this bailout mess is over, Mitch may find himself down a handful of points instead of ahead.
