Travesty! Our Ivory Tower here in Homotopia is now without internets! Someone please help! Insight, as usual, majorly jacked something up while trying to “repair” whatever they needed to repair. Don’t worry, we won’t get a service credit even though it’ll take 18-20 days for cable to be restored.
This means we are struggling to find a place with the internets and electricity– which is turning out to be quite a major obstacle in the big city of Louisville. Every joint in town has one or the other but not both.
Please don’t burn the website down with mean comments while we’re away. It’s bad enough that we’re cut off from society/going through major technological withdrawal. We don’t want to come back to a cluster you-know-what.
Also: a friend of ours in the Upper Highlands neighborhood near Assumption found a little yap dog during the storm. A toy mix of some sort. If anyone is missing a cute little dog, please get in touch with me.
UPDATE: Here’s something else for you to chew on for a while–
John Yarmuth’s campaign headquarters was burglarized again last night.
From Stephen George:
According to campaign spokesman Christopher Hartman, gone are computers and monitors, a TV, some palm pilots and other things they expect to find missing in the coming hours. It’s the second burglary of the office in a week.
“(They got) plenty of sensitive campaign information,” Hartman says. “This time, they got the information they were looking for.”
After a break-in Tuesday, the campaign staff discovered a server and some other small items missing.
Why didn’t the campaign get an alarm system or take measures to protect everything after the last break-in? Not saying they didn’t take some measures… but it seems strange that it would happen again. Weird.
Message to Yarmie folks: LOCK YOUR SHIT UP AND GET A SECURITY SYSTEM. It’s like $300. Just do it. Seriously.
In other news, still no essential services. So we’ll see you kids later.

Maybe Julie Carr & Shannon White stole that stuff. They like to steal.

As noted before — hope they seeded the database(s).
And one other small question — if you are broken into once, why leave anything on the premises? Move the data to an external HD or two on a server, and take it with you at night.
Ah well — campaigns are rapidly moving, all-hours affairs; might be hard to do normal security stuff.
I’ll be watching for the fake campaign lit addressed to me. :–)
