Is Greg Stumbo Forgetful Or Just a Liar?

August 7th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Remember when Greg Stumbo told everyone he was supporting Joni Jenkins in the Speaker Pro-Tem race in the State House?

Yeah? Turns out Greg Stumbo was lying his ass off.

Larry Clark endorsed Stumbo for Speaker and Greg Stumbo in turn endorsed Larry Clark for Pro-Tem.

From the Courier-Journal:

Clark is being opposed in his bid for re-election as speaker pro tem by Rep. Joni Jenkins, D-Shively. Richards has endorsed Jenkins, the chairwoman of the Jefferson County legislative delegation.

Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, acknowledged endorsing Clark at the golf event, which he said was an annual fundraiser for Clark’s campaign fund. But Stumbo said he could not recall getting an endorsement from Clark for speaker.

“I told him (Clark) that I’m getting a lot of encouragement, and he was glad to hear that,” Stumbo said.

In response to the comments by Clark and Stumbo, Richards released a statement today that said, “I have not sought the endorsement of Larry Clark, and I have no comment.”

Meanwhile, Mary Karen Stumbo continues to avoid apologizing for attacking Diane Brumback and wonders why Greg is losing his once great reputation among Kentucky Democrats.

    Woo-hoo! Jenkins/Aug for Gov/Lt. Gov.

Since we hate both Richards and Stumbo now, Jake, who are we for for speaker?

    I don’t hate Greg.

    I think he’s 100% full of shit.

Totally think Jody is a pussy for never having a backbone, but he DID do a couple things this past session that made a little bit of sense. And with new House leadership, maybe he’d have more of a backbone. And at least he’s not aligned with corrupt Larry Clark and lying Greg Stumbo.

Perhaps Greg decided he wanted to endorse the eventual winner - and not give Jonathan Hurst a full slate of puppets.

haha! Thanks for making me laugh.

Jonathan Hurst has no puppets. You’re assuming he has some sort of power– which he does not.

What’s with all the Hurst bitterness these days? Greg and Mary Karen loved him when Greg was pretending to run for Senate.

The Hurst bitterness stems out of the belief that Speaker Richards answers to him and him alone. I like what you do here, Jake, but buddying up to and defending Hurst will not earn you respect in most Democratic circles. This whole mess in the House is not a result of Jody or Larry or Joni or Charlie Hoffman or Rocky or Rob Wilkey or Greg Stumbo…the chaos is orchestrated by Hurst. He could not survive if reason and accountability were ever words of the day .

Many of the Democrats in the House have no backbone. Many are bought and sold by the coal industry. I would love to know how the lack of moral courage that is Jonathan Hursts responsibility.
