Some dude tried to give Mitch McConnell a banana and a State Trooper wrestled him to the ground. [Ronnie Ellis]
Fancy Farm was boring and the speeches sucked. Young Republicans are brainwashed into believing something McConnell made up. Young Democrats were unimpressive– like the person in the Dalmatian costume (wearing a McConnell mask) who pretended to fellate a “Texas Oil Man.” Totally unclassy. [H-L]
Even Larry Dale Keeling made everything sound kind of boring. Because it obviously was. Maybe next year when nothing is going on it’ll be more exciting? [KY Kurmudgeon]
Dirty blogger Ben Ray got into a story about Fancy Farm in the State Journal and DIDN’T EVEN MENTION HIS WEBSITE! What! Why on earth would you talk about something serious when you have a website to promote? [State Journal]
Goodness! How many stories are going to be written about Wes and his Trey Grayson t-shirt? Is this all somebody has to do to get free press? [Daily Independent]
Jack Brammer has a decent round-up of the best parts of Fancy Farm. [H-L]
Jefferson Poole has some great photos from the event. Mostly of Republicans. [BGRS]
Mark Hebert’s details of this year’s picnic are pretty interesting. McConnell didn’t impress, Steve Beshear gave a fancy speech, McConnell campaign video guy outsmarted, old dude with a banana, most boring Fancy Farm ever. [Hebert]
Read the juicy non-Fancy Farm updates after the jump…
Larry Webster, a Pikeville attorney, wrote a column in the Herald-Leader about mountaintop removal and how coal country needs outsiders’ protection. He mentioned Ben Chandler a few times but didn’t once bother to take Daniel Mongiardo to task. [H-L]
Mitch McConnell repeatedly complains any time Bruce Lunsford won’t answer hypothetical questions. So why isn’t Mitch McConnell answering actual questions about how he’s going to vote on the tobacco bill? No worries, the $116,400 McConnell has received from the tobacco industry this election cycle would never cloud his obstructionist judgment. Also, Jim Bunning really may be crazy. [C-J]
The Bush Misadministration, Mitch McConnell, Elaine Chao and the absolute death and literal destruction these people have caused. It’s real. It’s major. And it’s mostly being ignored by everyone because Mitch’s opponent either doesn’t want to harness all the crap he’s pulled or because voters are ignorant and would rather mindlessly repeat inaccurate talking points. [Read All About It]
Pat Crowley gave us props in a story on his blog. And then Libertarian Party Chairperson and Sonny Landham backer Ken Moellman called Page One “mindless drivel.” Yeah, this is all mindless drivel… and Ken Moellman didn’t support the most racist hack bigot this side of the Mississippi. Living in denial is amazing fun. [Pat Crowley]
Have you heard? Mary Karen Stumbo publicly attacked Diane Brumback. In the process she also outed her husband Greg Stumbo for not going to the legislative conference in New Orleans. Go read all about it. And then ask Mary Karen to apologize to Diane, who has just gone through treatment for breast cancer. [KY Women Part 1, Part 2]

I attended the fancy farm picnic as I have done many times before and it seemed to me the crowd size was off it’s normal attendance. Several other people made this same observation. I agree this one was extremely hot and and was very boring. A lot of the political operatives who always attend did not show up. I guess the gas price is taking it’s toll. The Governor and other politicans did not seem to be as popular with the attendees as before. Usually they have many people tring to get to speak to them but that was not the case this year. This was the most disappointing of all that I have attended, but the food was good as always.

“Some dude tried to give Mitch McConnell a banana……”? This joke could end in many differnet ways, but it was probably just a misunderstanding over wide stance or something.
