Let's just assume that it's not the case that over 50% of that land doesn't have oil in it or that most of the rest is tied up in courts. Why oh why then would the oil companies not drill there? They want to make money (we all know how evil they are) and right now they are only making 8-9 cents on the dollar. Marlboro makes 22 cents on the dollar, Merck makes 25 cents on the dollar. The average, you guessed it, 8 cents. So please come up with something more creative and plausible than they enjoy high gas prices because they DO NOT benefit from them.
