Posts 3-6 mention sexual harassment lawsuits. There was at least one filed against RF by an ex-employee of the University of Rhode Island, which apparently was settled out of court. I know because an attorney representing RF & URI contacted me about it several years ago.

I saved the email I sent to Wilinghantz (grievance item #12 above) in June 2005. Perhaps now I can finally delete it. I did discard her response to me shortly after receiving it when I learned that he had been given a nice raise! It's even more discouraging now that I know my email was only one of many - and it still didn't make a difference. What distresses me even after all this time is the human cost - that so many fine people were hurt by this one individual. It is sad for the university and most especially for CEHD.

You know the old saying One Bad Apple- well that is "bunk." Yes Felner was a jerk and the University was remiss in not handling the situation in an efficient and professional manner, but I am proud to be a student at U of L and will be proud to have a degree from there. The majority of the professors and instructors there are excellent, caring individuals who provide the highest level of instruction. The individuals in question whom RF put into power rarely even teach classes according to the schedule of classes.

I appreciate those who are teaching and doing their job and I'll be proud of a degree from there as well!

Thanks for bringing all this information to the public eye. I believe that the University needs to step up and finally agree that RF pulled the wool over their eyes, that Provost Willihnganz was remiss in her handling of the complaints and grievances filed by individuals, and that those individuals who are currently in positions of power in the CEHD(Chairs:Ronau, Karp, Stringfield, Kolander)- as assigned by RF should be required to step down or be dismissed. I have read your page and this information with great interest and thank you for bringing it to the public's attention. I know many individuals who work in the CEHD and many fellow students in the CEHD programs and can state with certainty that the anonymity that has been questioned by others in these comment sections, was necessary due to the vindictive nature of RH, Karen Karp, Robert Ronau, and others in the department. Their retaliatory behaviors would not stop with staff, but continued with students, thus no wonder individuals did not want to include their real names!

Just Saying,
It seems that you were never treated by Bob, Karen, and Sam. Without their support, Felner would have gone a long time ago. They were the leaders to go to the Provost and plead to raise his salaries and keep him. They were the one who enabled him. They were the one who had infamous shirt with a logo, Who Got Felner, We Do? They even had social parties on the week-ends to enjoy the pain of others.
Many times, they were more cruel, than Felner himself. Be honest, you could trust Felner, but these people could never be trusted.
They never fought for the faculty, but just sang Felner's praises. Now some of them are claiming, they were also mistreated by Felner. Well, why did they not resign from their positions of power while some others did? They are not that innocent what they are telling the others now.

Maybe they won't be allowed to continue. I don't know the people at U of L...I'm nowhere near Kentucky. I'd like to believe that once the investigation is over and the truth comes out, U of L will clean house of Felner cronies. In a postion of authority there, I might do the same...stay somewhat quiet now, and wait to see everything uncovered by the Feds before taking any internal action. It's just a thought.

Again....don't know the players. Just Felner. He's like a cancer wherever he goes.

I don't think it was the money Ed, I think it was the power that they were given. If you look at the actions by leadership....especially Karen Karp's micromanagement that effected everything that was done in the CEHD ....she was Felner's hip...and it was very difficult for those who were not in her "group". The fact that she had folks report to her what was said by certain people, so she could retailate against them and then get Felner to support her... is mind blogging. It is apparent that she knows very little about being a CHAIR.....which should be to support all faculty in their department.
Please remember that the current leadership was developed by Felner....they were his enforcers....
So why are they allowed to continue??????
