Chuckle chuckle Mitch, you charmer, you! The other lesson is that bigotry and racism are funny, and we should all work to get cartoonists to depict us as such so we can hang them on our walls and laugh at those who despise us, enjoy our power, and treasure all the many people who find us kind, charming, sincere, and a person who says what he means, no matter what he means.

Well, Mitchie knows so much about letting things roll off his bare back. Check out this link to McConnell's mouthpiece blog and notice how the "team" there gratuitously uses ellipses in what McConnell had to say about Sen. Jesse Helms (R-Hell) on Friday. Notice that the article that blog links to actually puts McConnell's claim that Helms wasn't a bigot into a humiliating light:

From http://www.startribune.com/nation/23191654.html?page=2&c=y

###
As a television commentator before running for the Senate, Helms said, "Dr. (Martin Luther) King's outfit ... is heavily laden at the top with leaders of proven records of communism, socialism and sex perversion, as well as other curious behavior." He called the Civil Rights Act of 1964 "the single most dangerous piece of legislation ever introduced in the Congress."

"Senator Helms certainly was no bigot," Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday. "He was a man however not into subtlety. You know what he thought about a particular issue. You certainly knew because he was not into the kind of nuance and subtlety that so often divides American politicians."
