Governor Steve Beshear’s new Chief of Staff Adam Edelen is already making an impact. Edelen won’t officially be on the job until July 15, but it’s clear to most that he is approaching his new role from a perspective of leadership and responsibility. Not to mention bipartisanship. Definitely a sign that Beshear is moving things in the right direction.
Ronnie Ellis’ syndicated column from Thursday has the skinny:
FRANKFORT — Gov. Steve Beshear’s new chief of staff isn’t even officially on the job yet, but his influence is already being felt.
Late Thursday, Beshear announced Jay Blanton, director of public relations at the University of Kentucky, will replace Dick Brown as communications director for the governor’s office, effective Aug. 1.
Brown is moving to the Public Protection, Energy and Environment, and Labor cabinets. Beshear recently created those three cabinets from the previous behemoth Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet and the three will share some administrative and budgeting resources.
Blanton, 40, previously served as deputy communications director for Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson, working closely with Larry Hayes, who is now Beshear’s cabinet secretary. Before that, Blanton worked for Preston Osborne, the company started by Tommy Preston who is a senior advisor to Beshear and was named to replace Edelen as homeland security director when Edelen become chief of staff.

Cannot WAIT to see who takes Vicki Glass’ job. Word is that she’s gone even though her official end date is July 15, and with Dick Brown trying to control three new cabinets, the gov office press operation is utter chaos (compared to the normal partial chaos.)
Be fun to see how much of a micro-managing control-freak Edelen is, too. Depending on who the Glass replacement is, I give Blanton a year, tops.

Vicki has already moved on the lottery… I think.

Actually Vicki is working for the KFEC/state fair board. Which means that if she announces how much the prize-winning hog or cow weights at the state fair, get out the scales and verify it. The woman doesn’t even have a passing relationship with the truth after spinning for Stumbo and Beshear for years. Everything she says is suspect.
