It’s Wednesday. Hump Day. Hot Outside. Too Hot.

A tribute to David Edmunds. Not suitable for John McCain, the vapors brigade, Jody Richards, children or people who are awful prudes. Probably not entirely safe for work. You’ll love this junk, though. Yes, David and I are getting married in gay New York this weekend. [YouTube]

The reaction to probably homosexual David Edmunds is getting heated and entertaining. The Chair of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Louisville makes him sound quite ignorant and the co-chair of the Lambda Law Caucus at UofL says he’s trying to send us back into the Stone Age. Poor David. [C-J, C-J]

Ruh ro. Reaction to John McCain last night wasn’t the greatest. His handlers didn’t plan very well. Go watch the video at some other dirty liberal website. [DMKY]

Wait for this. It’s a good one. Jon Draud knew about the extra cost of his state vehicle and declined the opportunity to cut costs when he was given that option. We find all this out after his lying ass said he didn’t know anything about the cost of his huge, gas hog of a vehicle (Chrysler 300). What a tired, old hack. [C-J]

Way more fancy pants stuff after the jump…

Ryan Alessi says Kentuckians like the idea of a Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton ticket. What’s your take on that, kids? Also, isn’t it high time Jennifer Moore, Nathan Smith and Steve Beshear admitted who they plan to back as superdelegates? The Montana and South Dakota primaries are over. It’s time to quit making fraidy-cat excuses. [H-L]

Speaking of Hillary Clinton, even poisoner Terry McBrayer says Hillary’s crew say she’s been looking for a way to gracefully bow out. Only took several weeks for people to admit it. And to reiterate: Kentucky’s three superdelegates need to grow some balls. [C-J]

Get ready to cheer. Kentucky’s gas tax is going up to 22.5 cents/gallon. That’s an increase of 1.5 cents. Steve Beshear has no authority to stop the tax hike or to approve a gas tax holiday. But make sure you check out the amounts of gas sold and the number of miles driven this year compared to years past. You’ll be surprised. [Mark Hebert]

Oh man. David Williams (not the perennial candidate) responded to the Courier-Journal’s editorial about ethics reform and he called the paper “timid.” What is it with these turtle heads who can’t figure out what the public is and isn’t cool with? Of all the things to get upset over, he chooses ethics reform– no matter how weak. [C-J]

We had some big meeting in downtown Louisville Saturday to elect Clinton delegates for the Kentucky State Convention. No one seems to know who won. Any ideas?

Let’s be clear- there is no question about the winner; Barak Obama reached the requisite number to secure the nomination according to party rules.

    Period.

The next 48 hours will answer the only remaining big question- will Hilary Clinton cement or destroy the Clinton legacy in the Democratic Party?

My own personal view is that this coyness on her part regarding a formal concession is because she’s $20 million dollars in debt; she is now in the ‘negotiation’ stage of grief in is trying to come to terms with the reality on the ‘death’ of her campaign.
One other question that has become abundantly clear is why does the Democratic Party need super delegates? These fence sitting party nanny’s have all but abdicated their role as elders by NOT stepping in and resolving this sooner- for one candidate or the other. Their ‘wait and see’ attitudes did nothing but prolong the agony of this primary and have ultimately gained us nothing, more likely their lack of leadership has hurt us as a party.

And if Terry Mcbrayer; Jennifer Moore; Nathan Smith; et al, in their role as super delegates cannot stand up today and unambiguously get behind Barak Obama, then they have no business involving themselves in the national party mechanism. Let the Democratic Party primary voters decide the contest and let’s get rid of these would be ‘king makers’ who are of no real value to the rank and file.

On 84 WHAS, Francene, blasted Jon Draud for his request for purchase of the Chrysler 300 on the 10:30 to 11 am segment.

And blasted him good she did.

But just like our legislators and their leaders, he doesn’t give a damn about the cost to the taxpayers.

    • He said he needed it because he will be driving 25,000 miles per year. I typed a post doing some MPG math for this car.

Steve B – I’ll use your stats to do a little MPG math to see how much in gasoline dollars it will cost for Draud to drive from his home in Edgewood, Ky to Frankfort
Google maps says it is 95.3 miles each way from his house to Frankfort for a total of 190.6 miles per work day. I’ll add 10 miles for side trips and lunch each day and for easy math. Lets assume he drive 200 miles per workday.
There are 260 work days per year times 200 miles per day equals 52,000 miles driven on the state taxpayers dime just to get to work so he can earn that $220,000 salary
Lets say he averages 18 mpg. Divide that by the 52,000 miles he drives each year and you get 2,888 gallons of gasoline. Now lets multiply that by $3.95 (todays price) and his annual fuel cost is a massively huge $11,411.
Son of a bitch!. No wonder he wants the taxpayers to pick up his gasoline charges.
Whoever approved this kind of abuse of taxpayer dollars SHOULD BE FIRED. This is outrageous. I sure wish we could get our hands on the approval document so we could see all who approved this purchase.
$11,411 for gasoline for a guy who makes $220,000 per year. And we will not replace social workers who take care of the most vunerable of Kentucky’s children.
When will we start voting in people who will really hire people who DESIRE to make state government the most efficient it can possibly be.
I think Beshear needs to start over with his hires.

This may be retarded, but what pisses me off the most is that he used the excuse that we had to spend $13,000 in order for his old, cellulite-riddled ass to get a GPS device.

Is Kentucky paying for GPS devices for EVERYONE who needs one? Road crews? Cops? Everyone? Of course not.

So why couldn’t his already financially well-off butt go buy a $250 GPS device with his own money and strap it to his dash? I know dozens and dozens of social workers who have to do this very thing and most of them can’t even afford to do more than feed their families these days.

    Hacks.

GPS’es are DA BOMB. I bought one for my directionally challenged wife and it worked so well (and I liked and envied it so much) that I went and bought a less-fancy model for myself, since I could probably navigate myself across the state or nation without benefit of a road atlas.

The real crime here is that we are paying for him to drive back and forth from home. I have to pay for my own commute to work, and then if I am going somewhere from the office for work related purposes, then I take a state vehicle. You may say what you like about EF, but his administration did crack down on the habit of driving a state car at home at night. It is not just Jon Draud that should be criticized for this, but rumors are that Cabinet Secretaries and Commissioners are driving state vehicles (Big Honking Crown Vics we hear) home at night as well.

Why do we still allow state employees to drive state vehicles without cost-sharing, anyway?

    It’s 2008. Not 1978.

Good question! But some of the non merit state “workers” feel that is their God Given right to drive a big ole state car… makes ‘em feel important, I guess. I hear that is the first thing some of them ordered in December…. Crown Vics… SUV’s… Chrysler 300′s… Not that it is limited to this administration by any means… but gasoline has not been $4 per gallon and our budget completely in the crapper (til gambling saves us, of course). Times are a’hurtin’ and they should be a’changin’… but the more things change, the more they stay the same.

from a friend of mine, I’ve been told the state spends well over $20m just for gasoline each year. That is $20,000,000. This is just for the cars, not the big trucks they use to repair or clear our roads. They use diesel.

I was at a meeting the other day and 8 state employees pulled up in 3 cars (one was a prius thankfully) the other 2 were gas hog SUV’s. I wonder why they didn’t get a 15 passenger van to conserve fuel?

    Jake,
    I have a fun idea….

I’ve read posts where people are complaining about state employees being parked at Wal-Mart or a restaurant during off hours or with speeding state vehicles flying down the interstate.

Could you create a post or link where people could send in photos or plate numbers of the offenders?

Maybe with the attention paid to this problem, this will lead to some solutions, just like everyone complaining about the office Senate office renovations has forced Williams to cave.

Bilked: GREAT idea! I am stealing it.
