Oh snap! There’s drama in the Louisville political land. You’re gonna love this.
Ellen Reitmeyer is a 34-year-old single woman running for Louisville Metro Council, and is currently the legislative aide to Councilwoman Julie Raque Adams. She lives in a condo off New LaGrange Road, and goes to Bible Study early on Tuesday mornings.
This morning, she was shocked to see one of her primary opponents, 64-year-0ld Jon Ackerson, standing in her driveway, “staring up at my bedroom window” at 6 a.m. At first, she says, she was frightened. Ackerson approached her, but Reitmeyer said she was late for Bibly Study and sped off before he could confront her.
“I thought, what is my opponent doing in my driveway at six o’clock in the morning?”

She returned a short time later to find two police cruisers and Ackerson at her home, and Ackerson was filing a complaint against her for stealing yard signs. According to Reitmeyer, several of Ackerson’s yard signs were placed in her trash while she was gone.
“He is the king of dirty politics and this is pathetic,” she said. “I have gone to the police and filed a report documenting that he was in front of my residence staring at my window.”
Reitmeyer said that the district handles plenty of complaints about political signage in the rights of way from residents, and that every candidate experiences some theft of signs. She accused Ackerson of posting signs in people’s yards without permission.
I attempted to reach Ackerson this morning, but he hasn’t yet returned my call.
At tonight’s meeting of the Jefferson County Republican Party, Reitmeyer is expected to be elected as vice chair.

Maybe he wasn’t planting evidence — maybe he was like a dog marking his spot, only doing it with his yard signs. I
