More Evidence of Fischer Disconnection?

April 30th, 2008 · 7 Comments

How hilarious is this? Greg Fischer’s ‘Contact Us‘ page lists his campaign as “Greg Fischer for Congress.”

We’re over five months into this U.S. Senate race. Fischer’s website has been live for months and months. And it still says “for Congress.” We took a screengrab for safe keeping.

Spell it out: A-m-a-t-e-u-r.

[...] Jake’s been whooping Democratic Senate candidate ass today. And while most of it has been partisan… this is just funny. [...]

I understand the point you’re making, and I appreciate the need to be precise; but technically the term congress can be applied to both the House and the Senate.

    Congress
    a. The national legislative body of the United States, consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
    b. The two-year session of this legislature between elections of the House of Representatives.

    UK Alum,

I was wanting someone to point that out. But to think about it for a minute, no one has ever run for “Congress” as per definition (a). It’s like saying “Vote for me, for either Senator or Representative.”

I think the gaffe is in the prestige ascribed to Senators, they never pass up the opportunity to distinguish themselves from the Representatives, and that’s how the connotation grew out of the word Congress.

So yeah, literally (proper use of the word, no?) Fischer is running for a seat within the United States Congress, he isn’t running for Congress. Not using Senate seems to indicate that he doesn’t fully appreciate the stature the office holds.

    Yeah, he’s beyond his depth.
