Or how to campaign for Mitch McConnell.
Greg Fischer’s campaign for U.S. Senate has launched its first real attack ad of the campaign. The ad features an unidentified elderly woman talking about Bruce Lunsford’s business ethics, says he evicted old people from nursing homes while newspaper and internet headlines roll across the screen. It ends with “SAY NO TO LUNSFORD” on the screen as Greg Fischer says he approves the message.

Let’s just say that I have a feeling Greg Fischer’s ass will be chapped by the end of next week. And, yes, Kim, I think this is passive-aggressive because the ad doesn’t really tell me anything that Bruce has done.
UPDATE: To follow up on what I said earlier…
What the hell gives? If Greg Fischer wants to attack, why not come out of the gate with an ad that audibly says Bruce Lunsford did this or that? Why not identify the elderly woman or at least use her to tell a 30-second story about how terrible Bruce allegedly is?
This move just doesn’t make sense so late in the game. Fischer’s other ads don’t do anything to build name I.D. and this spot doesn’t even effectively frame Bruce Lunsford as the Vencor Villain or whatever.
I give up.
Greg should have hired some gays to help him with his name I.D. and image.
UPDATE @ 5:30:
Okay.
:12 into the spot. Check the misspelling.
MEDICADE? Really? We can’t spell when we’re launching an ad as part of a U.S. Senate race?
What?
Go read Joe Gerth’s take on the ad:
What differentiates this ad from other attack ads is that there is absolutely nothing in it to make you feel good about Fischer — the ad is attack from start to finish. Often a candidate will end an attack ad by saying nice things about himself.
The ad, produced by filmmaker Elliot Greenbaum, is hard to follow because the woman doesn’t talk clearly and her voice is sometimes drowned out by an annoying soundtrack.
That said, words like “unethical” and “does not have enough compassion” seem to jump out — the woman says these things clearly — and it could significantly harm Lunsford.
-SNIP-
The ad is hard to follow
UPDATE @ 6:15:
Thought I was done? I wish!
Greg Fischer continues to violate FEC regulations by ignoring or deliberately not following disclaimer requirements for television ads.
To reiterate, television disclaimers must been the following requirements.
Instead of digging through the FEC guidebook, we’ll just quote from the General Counsel of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee memo re: Disclaimer Requirements For Television and Radio (PDF link)… to make it easier for the Fischer campaign.
II. Television Communications
FEC Disclaimers
Each communication broadcast over television or through any broadcast, cable, or satellite transmission must include a “stand by your ad” statement in addition to a disclaimer stating who paid for the advertisement. The “stand by your ad” statement must be both spoken during the course of the ad and written at the end of the ad.
- If the communication is authorized by or paid for by a candidate or a candidates committee, the communication must include:
1. an audio statement by the candidate that identifies the candidate and states that he or she has approved the communication. -SNIP- This statement may be made in either of two ways:
a) by the candidate, shown on screen in an “unobscured, full-screen view of himself or herself making the statement,” or
b) by the candidate in voice-over by himself or herself, accompanied by a clearly identifiable picture of the candidate. The FEC has provided a “safe harbor,” specifying that a photograph or similar image of the candidate that is at least 80 percent of the vertical screen height will be sufficient to meet this requirement
2. a similar written statement in “clearly readable” writing at the end of the television communication. To be “clearly readable,” the statement must:
a) appear in letters equal to or greater than four percent of the vertical picture height;
b) be visible for a period of at least four seconds; and
c) be printed in a color that reasonably contrasts with the background color of the communication.
WHY on earth is it so difficult for the Fischer campaign to grasp the basics?

Jesus fuck who created this piece of work? Just attack him and get it over with!

This ad will hurt Lunsford in the general election more than it will in the primary.

Lunsford /Fletcher — remember? If Lunsford loses will he support McConnell?

Ad pulled from You Tube already???

Jake,
Calm the hell down, Bro. Please. Your defense of the odious Lunsford is making you look really, really bad. And leave Kim alone!
6 Vicki // Apr 26, 2008 at 12:24 am
Bill,
Yup. Always a possibility with the ultimate “swing voter,” Lunsford. Hahahahahaha! KY needs another party switching jackass (David Williams, anyone?) like we need a hole in our heads.
7 guess who // Apr 26, 2008 at 8:55 am
Jake,
Just curious, what campaigns have you worked on?
8 Jake // Apr 26, 2008 at 11:44 am
Vicki: Kim Geveden, not Greenwell. (He asked me to mention him by name)
guess who: Dozens. Consulted on re: fundraising? a couple hundred. Got something specific you’re looking for?

I think that’s supposed to be funny. And it is.

You claim to have worked on all of these campaigns. Just wanted to know which ones? Name them? Which campaigns have you worked on and please name the position you held in each campaign? Were you a canvas neighboorhoods voluntter (door hanger) or work a phone bank, or did you actually work on stratagy? What titles did you have? Please enlighten us on your role in actual campaigns please.

Well, pissy pants, the races I recently worked in Kentucky include: Andrew Horne’s congressional race, Dep. Dir. of Finance. Steve Henry’s gubernatorial bid, Dir. of Finance. Lunsford-Stumbo gubernatorial bid, Netroots Dir. Did finance consulting for several smaller races like CJE and some local (Jeff Co) judicial candidates who have turned out to be embarrassments.
Beyond that, I have a massive finance database that candidates from all over pay me for access. And until forming Full Signal Media Group, operated HUNDRED20 with a small staff of strategy and research types, along with a web development team.
And, ugh, gross, I’d never actually knock on doors/do field for anybody but Andrew Horne. I did finance. Yan Can Cook, Jake Can Count and Sucker Skrilla Out of Rich Old Dudes.
13 guess who // Apr 26, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Well you did say hundreds of campaigns. That does not sounds like hundreds to me. Also, it does not appear that your stints as someone that sits with a candidate to make fundraising calls or organize a fundraiser party hardly qualify you to manage campaigns yet alone criticize other campaigns when it comes to stratagy.
And your “ugh, gross” & “pissy pants” comments are statements that someone like Jonathan Hurst would use. I guess you are a JH fan.
14 Jake // Apr 26, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Do you really want me to pull my tax returns and name *every* candidate I’ve ever raised money for? Get a grip.
I’d never manage a campaign, as that’s a thankless job that requires one to take the blame for everything. I’m fully qualified to critique any campaign I please. And if I can’t strategize and raise funds? Then, hrm, I’m not sure how I made all the cash I made over the past six or seven years. Because I certainly wasn’t working the street corner. (At least not six or seven years ago, anyway.)
My comments are statements from someone like me. Jonathan may have a holier-than-though sense of humor like me, I’m not certain. But more power to him if he uses vulgarity regularly.
It’s always interesting when someone doesn’t have the balls to personally attack others by using their real name. It’s easy for you to say nasty things about Jonathan Hurst when you have a screenname to hide behind.
15 guess who // Apr 26, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Did not say nasty things about him. Just said your comments sounded like him. And I am sure you clould list the campaigns and job duties you had without having to dig out your tax forms.
Anyone in that professions should be able to list most of their campaigns rather than just 3 or 4. I seriously doubt you worked in hundreds of campaigns, even doubt you have worked in dozens.

Thanks for driving up pageviews with your ridiculous comments. Anyone who knows me knows what sort of career I had and the volume of work I’ve handled. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been hired by Andrew Horne, the possibly corrupt Steve Henry or Bruce Lunsford’s staff.
As any finance consultant can tell you, you work with dozens and dozens of candidates at any given time in order to pay the bills. You don’t usually take full-time positions on a race unless you really believe in a candidate (otherwise you risk losing tons of business since you’re busy with other crap). And when you have a consulting firm that handled business from tons of clients, no, you don’t often remember every single person, organization or foundation you’ve done work for.
And, saying that I sound like someone else is certainly an attack on that individual– especially if they’re not writing 24/7 on a nasty blog. That’s uncalled for.
Now, if you have something substantive to contribute to the conversation, do so. Otherwise cut if off. Your attacks on Jonathan Hurst are documented. Not sure what your disdain is, but if you have a bone to pick with him, do so using your own name and not as some anonymous Greg Fischer troll who sounds remarkably like Jennifer Miller.

Jake-
Sounds like you have been a second rate, low level, staffer on a handful of races. But you think you are Carville Jr since you have your own website.
Your whiny paranoid writing style must be making you rich with all the advertisers beating a path to your website. What’s the burn rate for your cash reserves?
Love,

guess who and not jake…. are you a desperate Fischer supporter. I think its either that or you are just out of your mind. i know what you are a Fischer staffer… AJ is that you?

Riiight, Fischer troll. Keep it up with your hackery as your boy gets his ass handed to him. Wait til later today.
Keep leaving retarded ass comments to drive up my pageviews. That equals cash for me.
And, if you want to become a client, I’ll happily disclose my client list.

To the spammer: Your comments aren’t being deleted, they’re being held as spam. That’s what happens when over 25 comments get spammed from the same I.P. address from the Frankfort Plant Board.
22 Jeff Noble // Apr 28, 2008 at 10:10 am
Be aware that fewpb.net is not just the Frankfort Electric and Water Plant Board, a utility company, but also the major internet provider for much of Franklin County.
23 Jake // Apr 28, 2008 at 10:48 am
Jeff: Yup. And it’s all of one person doing the spamming.

It’s no wonder that Greg is trying to sabotage fellow democratic runner Lunsford as his sister (Volunteer Director) is tied to McConnell. McConnell’s wife, the Secy of Labor and close personal friend of Fischer, created a $2M grant to help Fischer’s sister start her fledgling business. How is that for coincidence?
