As many of you know, the Fischer campaign’s latest spin is that Bruce Lunsford is “weak” – that he’s spent $500K and only moved five percentage points, just under 50%. Fischer’s camp says it’s laughable that he can’t get over the 50% hump.
Hrm. What we’d say is more laughable (as well as troublesome) is that Greg Fischer has spent an equal amount of money and can’t get himself up to 10%.
So what’s Greg Fischer do? Why, he sends a crew of 10 or 15 youngsters out in the Upper Highlands of Louisville to distribute a flyer attacking Bruce Lunsford. Instead of coming up with new material that could actually harm his opponent, what does the campaign do? Recycle material that’s already tested and has been in the public eye for five years. Have a look:

What’s most interesting is that Fischer mentions that Bruce has given $63,850 to Republicans. What he doesn’t mention is that Bruce has only contributed $32,350 to Republicans since 1997 and has given over $101,000 to Democrats since that same year. That’s less than 25% to Republicans and more than 75% to Democrats. (See a year-by-year breakdown here.) So you tell us where the controversy is. Someone who has contributed hundreds of thousands to Democrats or someone who only started contributing in 2006/2007 (if you don’t count Fischer’s Republican contributions in the late 1990s)? Right.
Check back later for Fischer’s ad titled “The Change.”

I can only find evidence of $54k in contributions. Where does the Fischer campaign get their figure?

Perhaps the Fischer campaign wants to remind the voting public of Lunsford’s issues. If anyone thinks that McConnell won’t have a lot of material with which to attack Lunsford (a lot of it recycled, but real, nonetheless), they’re not paying attention.
Of course, Lunsford is going to win the nomination. But he has no chance in the GE.

Never look to me to defend and support the Lunsford candidacy. Its a 70-30 race in the fall.

James R: Care to tell us who asked you to defend or support Lunsford?
