OMG! The Earthquakes!!! RUN!!!!

April 18th, 2008 · 11 Comments

Did you know? The earthquake was felt in Louisville and all of the media is going crazy. We hear Mark Hebert even did a live shot from some fallen bricks on 3rd Street. True story: he actually ran to his basement during the shakes. Thank goodness he’s married to a smart woman who beat him about the head, reminding him that he was supposed to, you know, not run to the basement.

But it all seriousness, a 5.4 quake in the Kentuckiana/Indiucky area is a big deal. Here’s Rick’s take. And WHAS11′s Earthquake Blog/Poll/Live Feed (for real).

Here’s a map of the shake:

Did you feel it? Enjoying the media blitz?

Mayor Jerry is telling us that this is a great time to make sure that we have an emergency kit in the basement. He quickly contradicted himself to say, don’t go to the basement if there’s an earthquake! Glad we clarified that.

What’s interesting to me is that no one (out in public) is talking about getting into a sturdy door frame. Sure, it’s on the tube… but… I guess people really have forgotten what they learned in grade school.

I happened to have been awake and it sure as hell freaked me out. First I thought the water heater was going to explode, but then the whole frickin’ house was shaking so hard I knew it must be an earthquake. O.K. part of me thought Memphis got nuked.

Woke me up in Lexington. Apparently I have canine senses.

Jeez. I mean. I shook and then fell back asleep. No harm no foul.

How do I always miss all the good shit? Apparently there was a 4.5 aftershock at 11:15 or whatever.

All the good shit. Always miss it.

Could we maybe have another one? Please? I just want to experience it.

I was still awake and felt the first moment when something upstairs crashed to the floor. I thought someone was in the house and was headed upstairs with a pistol when I felt the floor beneath my feet start moving–something I’ve never felt before.

I managed to get back downstairs without shooting myself in the foot, stood my sleepy and confused wife inside the str0ngest door frame and waited for the worst to happen. I was still confused as to what it was though I was thinking earthquake.

I couldn’t go to sleep so I sat up until the aftershock. Terrible way to spend an early morning.
