It’s true.
Once sane Rep. Tom Burch has gone crazy.
During the opening of the controversial Clinton campaign headquarters, Tom went off the deep end by accusing Congressman John Yarmuth of being bought by Barack Obama.
From Politicker:
Representative Burch said he was disappointed 3rd District Congressman – and Kentucky superdelegate – John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) endorsed Senator Obama. Burch suggested a 2008 donation from Obama’s Hope Fund PAC to Yarmuth’s campaign may have contributed to that support.
“I found out my local Congressman got $2,500 from Obama,” said Burch. “I wonder: did he pay that to get an endorsement?”
Whaaaaaaaat?
Please, Tom, like your old ass hasn’t been bought & paid for like six hundred thousand times over. Hilarious that you’d bother to criticize Yarmuth amongst a crowd of people who have been bought and paid for time and time again. Jerry Lundergan, Steve Henry, Heather French Henry, Jim King, a couple of Democratic staffers, et al. You can’t criticize anyone for supporting a presidential candidate when you, yourself, publicly support a presidential candidate. Oh, the hypocrisy reeks!
It’s laughable that only 100 people showed up to the Clinton HQ opening. We remind you that easily 1,000 showed up for the Obama opening in Louisville and about 300-400 were at Lexington’s.
We’d also like to note that Hillary’s statewide political director in Kentucky once promised to return our contribution to Mike Weaver’s failed 2006 congressional race after we flipped out at his disgusting, homophobic television ads. That never happened. Makes us unlikely to believe anything she says on behalf of the Clinton campaign.

Knowing Tom as I have for 1/2 a lifetime these comments aren’t really uncharacteristic. Notwithstanding these comments, if he sees what he thinks doesn’t look right, good for him for saying so, even if I vehemently diasgree with him. I worked against Burch once, in the 1984 Primary, when I supported Tim Shaughnessy. Tim lost. And although I knew Tom (through his family) before 1984, since that time, I’ve come to recognize him as one of the most conscientious legislators in Frankfort. His thirty years of voting for the underdogs, the underrepresented, the underemployed, the undernourished, and undercared-for cannot be undone by this statement. He is one of the only people up there who acutally cares about a lot of people that most people don’t care about at all.

I agree with Jeff Noble totally. You may disagree politically with Tom Burch, but other than maybe Jim Wayne, there is not a better legislator who cannot be bought and sold in Frankfort. I challenge anyone to name a representative in Frankfort that has monthly meeting for constuitents at his own house. I would wager there are none. Burch is one of a kind. He cares about the poor and the underrepresented. He is class.
For you to go off on Tom Burch because you are mad he supports Hillary Clinton is pitiful and shows how small whoever runs this blog really is.
As for how many people showed up at an opening, who cares. Honestly.
Obama is running 25 points behind Clinton and is running 63-29 behind McCain. You better worry about what people think of your candidate instead of who has the biggest party. People vote not parties.

Who said Jack about being upset that he supports Hillary? We only
Like we said in the post, we’re pissed that he attacked John Yarmuth– of all people– by accusing him of selling out. We’re free to express opinions here, as are you.
Tom’s a great guy and has always been available, two things no one here has ever tried to dispute. But it’s ludicrous to accuse John Yarmuth of selling out because he received a contribution– something Burch and every other politician receive on a regular basis from PACs, lobbyists and individuals associated with big business and such.
Did you see the “& More” In the headline? The bit about Hillary’s opening drawing a tiny crowd and the part about her staff = & More.

Hey Jake…can you tell me more about the Obama and Clinton “staff” in Kentucky? I’ve seen random “spokespersons” but I’m unclear as to who’s who.
BTW…this is totally off topic…but I’m sitting here watching this polygamy crap going on in Texas where a Judge is deciding whether to return those poor children to their polygamist mothers who have forced their 16 year old girls to marry 60 year old coots. I can’t take it. Please God just say NOOOOOOOOOO!!
