Heather Ryan at the Ruby Laffoon Dinner

March 31st, 2008 · 9 Comments

Guest Brian Smith contributes this piece from Heather Ryan’s campaign. She’s the Democratic candidate for Kentucky’s 1st District U.S. House seat.

Heather Ryan made her debut as the most dynamic Democrat to spring from Western Kentucky since Alben Barkley. Speaking at the annual Governor Ruby Laffoon Dinner in Madisonville, KY she rocked the audience with an impassioned call to end the “culture of complacency” fostered by her opponent, republican “Exxon” Eddie Whitfield. She called out the incumbent for his many sins against the people of Kentucky; voting against the expansion of SCHIP, voting to cut veteran’s benefits while giving tax breaks to the wealthiest 1% of America, and being in the pocket of the petroleum industry at the expense of higher gas prices and further dependence on foreign oil.

Heather stated clearly her agenda for a more progressive Democratic representation for Kentucky and the country. After a standing ovation she was swarmed with constituents who had heard her story about her infamous encounter with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Now that they had heard her speak they knew they had found a strong and viable candidate to unseat Whitfield and release his grip as an absentee landlord on Kentucky’s First District. The Hillbilly Jim Pence caught it all on video (see it after the jump).

Video of the event and more after the jump…

The most interesting development of the evening came when Heather’s daughter Heaven, who was there at the Maiden Alley Theater when Senator McConnell put her mother in his cross hairs, managed to work her way to the front of the crowd and tell Senator Hillary Clinton what Mitch had done to her mother. Senator Clinton seemed appalled and directed her staff to take down her information. Here’s hoping the story reaches the highest halls of Congress.

Good speech. The tennis shoes with the dress was a bit odd, though.

Heather is headed for a defeat the proportions of which haven’t been seen since Hal Rogers beat that nice lady from Floyd County a few years ago — only difference being that Heather isn’t a nice lady. She’s a foulmouthed shrew who puts her daughter up to do her dirty work for her, and endangered her employer’s 501(c)3 status in the process.

We can’t hear the end of her soon enough.

And who cares if Hillary’s goons took notes? Mitch knows what really happened and no amount of exaggeration from Heather Ryan will change it.

Seems to me that the River Heritage Museum threated their own 501(c)3 funding when they allowed Mitch McConnell to film a campaign commercial in the lobby of the movie theater. You’re so eager to call names anony but you’re too much of a coward to say them to Mrs. Ryan aren’t you? That’s the one thing we can say for her, she’s not the coward you are.

    “Mitch knows what really happened”?

He certainly does. And there are tapes to back it up.

Allowing a public official (and one who approves your funding from year to year) to use your premises doesn’t endanger that organization’s status.

I’d be glad to sign my name if not for a state law that prohibits me from canvassing a district in writing in support or opposition of a candidate.

Anonymous, like the rest of the right-wing trolls, is busily flooding the blogs with irrelevant attacks, misinformation and lies. They are trying to deflect attention from the REAL issue here: Did Senator McConnell illegally influence the Paducah Film Society’s Board of Directors to get Heather fired? NOTHING else is relevant here. Not her actions, not her daughter’s words, NOTHING ELSE. The truth will hit you where the good Lord split you, so don’t be so all fired sure you’re on the right side.
