Senate Websites - A Pee Pee Contest?

March 26th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Yesterday Bruce Lunsford’s campaign for U.S. Senate sent out an email announcing a new (campaign) website would be released to the public this week. Finally. It’s about time, right? The same placeholder has only been up for, oh, more than two months. It’s almost April and there’s been no outlet (outside of the press) for the campaign to reach voters.

From Bruce’s email:

We are waging the fight to retire McConnell. Later this week, we will relaunch the Bruce2008.com website – an additional tool in our ever-growing arsenal for this fight. Along with news, positions, ideas and happenings from the campaign trail, you’ll find lots of exciting extras on our site, like interactive elements and ways for you to help spread the message of change in your community.

Wouldn’t you know, Greg Fischer’s folks got nervous about having a website that hasn’t been updated in two months, so the campaign decided to follow exactly in Lunsford’s footsteps with their very own email blast about their new website.

On our new website you can learn how to make the commitment to bring real change to your community and our state by electing Greg, a true Democrat we can all be proud to stand tall with.

As our website over the next few days is fully built out you’ll be able to send a letter to the editor through our site to your favorite local paper, or a message to your friends about why you support Greg, to even being able to get involved right in your own neighborhood.

The funny part: “As our website over the next few days is fully built out…” The Fischer site won’t even be finished, but they’re launching it early to keep up with the Joneses of the senate race.

Again– we’re just wondering when Greg Fischer will stop with the passive aggression. When will they quit it with the follow-the-leader mentality? We’d love it if something original happened that wasn’t inspired by Bruce Lunsford’s actions. Because, believe me, we’d love to see some actual activity in this senate race.

Oh my stars…Fischer’s campaign needs to hire me IMMEDIATELY to edit that mess of a press release. I don’t know how long this ticker can take such run-on sentences!

Hey, folks, his blog (with George’s sole post) takes comments. My own comments were less grammarian in nature:

From the Issues page (kudos on launching it!):

Greg Fischer’s first legislative priority will be passing a bill that prevents members of Congress from accepting their gold-plated tax-payer funded health care coverage until universal health care is a reality for every American. Maybe then we can get started on real change for health care in America.

George: Please tell your dad that this isn’t going to happen. Even if Congress is willing to give up their own health care, their families are another matter. This will be perceived as your dad doing some political posturing instead of doing something real. I suggest that a better bill would permit more drugs to be imported from Canada, or permit Medicare to negotiate for better drug prices from the pharmaceutical companies.
