Fischer Media Consultant Update

March 24th, 2008 · No Comments

We reported earlier (via Joe) that Greg Fischer’s media consultant, John Lapp, bailed on Fischer’s U.S. Senate campaign.

Wellllll… things have taken an interesting turn and we’ve finally gotten to the bottom of everything. Turns out the story got started with Pat Crowley on his blog earlier today:

Dem U.S. Senate candidate Greg Fischer has been dumped by his Washington-based consultants, McMahon Squire Lapp and Associates. Rarely good news when a candidate and consultant split just as the campaign gets going.

Unfortunately for Crowley, he didn’t bother to get to the bottom of things and didn’t bother getting in touch with the Fischer campaign for its side of the story. Leaving bloggers and everyone else who assumes facts printed by reporters are facts in an embarrassing situation because of his irresponsible journalism. He printed things as fact– like a stenographer– when what he had to say couldn’t have been further from the truth. We won’t comment on Crowley’s history with Lapp, but Google is your friend.

Reality is that (according to our source close to Fischer and sources close to Lapp) Lapp was let go by Greg Fischer - not the other way around. Turns out there’s a creative difference or two between the campaign and Lapp and Lapp’s not taking it very well.  Instead of professionally parting ways like you’d expect on a campaign as important as one for a candidate for the U.S. Senate, the dude got all disgruntled and got the ball rolling with negative press.  Not cool.  (And that’s coming from us–  the folks who don’t like anyone for any office.)

Ugh. The drama.
