Louisville’s Metro Democratic Club is hosting a debate for U.S. Senate candidates (Democrats, obviously) this Wednesday evening.
WHAS11’s Mark Hebert will be the moderator.
We’ll be there. Will you?
Don’t get your hopes up. Won’t be too exciting. But it’ll be a blast keeping up with everything controversial that gets thrown about. And you’ll have the perfect opportunity to drop some gossip our way while obsessively telling your favorite blogger how skinny he is.
The candidates:
When/Where:
Wednesday, March 12
6:30 P.M. EasternUAW Local 862 Union Hall
3000 Fern Valley Road
Louisville, Kentucky 40213
UPDATE @ 4:10: Due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict, Bruce won’t be at the debate. Maybe it’s a good time to scrap the entire thing and wait til later in April or May? Just a thought…

The primary is 2 months away and Lunsford website is still not up and running. The header page still says, more to come or something like that. Is Lunsford really running or was this just some silly joke by the KDP?

The debate only has 1/2 the candidates anyway why go forward with 2?

Since Jake knows about Lunsford’s “unavoidable scheduling conflict” maybe he could tell us. Lunsford is from Louisville, the event is in Louisville, and he doesn’t appear to be doing anything else. What’s the big scheduling conflict? Where in Kentucky will he be?

My bet is a fundraiser.

Rose: They’re 2 for $1 at CVS. Literally the only thing anyone can afford at CVS these days.
Elkhorn: Honestly, Metro Dems was less than flexible in setting a date for the “debate” with all campaigns. They only approached some of the candidates on the night of the Ford Dinner to let them know they were “invited” to attend. So knowing that information, I didn’t even bother to ask what Bruce will be up to specifically. But I know he’ll be at another Metro Dems meeting next month or in May, where he’ll no doubt be subjected to much tougher questioning than anyone will experience tomorrow night.
(And Bruce does have several fundraisers scheduled, but it’s my fault for not remembering when they are. )

Lunsford is paying for his campaign with the savings of vencor employees, so he will not be having fundraisers.

In fairness, Doug, how do you know Bruce isn’t paying for his campaign with horse racing proceeds? Or other investment returns?
He’s a very wealthy man and it’s possible he’s not doing exactly what I want to say he’s doing. (It sucks telling the truth sometimes. Ugh. We don’t like it.)
He’s doing fundraising and has hired a great finance staff. Though he doesn’t need to do it, it’s one thing he deserves credit for.

Based on the political gambles lunsford has made I don’t think he has made any money betting on horses.

Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true.

Since my sarcasm apparently didn’t go over so well, take a look at this post we made last week:
Speaking of Bruce Lunsford, his horse Tessa Blue has earned a race-best $452,800. In case you were wondering, that’s more than most people make in 15 years. [Blood-Horse]

So is he in another state (or District maybe) tomorrow doing some fundraising since he can’t be in his own hometown for a debate?

No clue, but fundraising is something that’s been mentioned.
More of the back story: Metro Dems initially pressured the Lunsford campaign to commit to the “debate” within hours (of the day they approached the campaign) and when the campaign couldn’t, Lunsford was uninvited. He was later re-invited a couple Fridays at the Ford Dinner for whatever reason.
Even though I’m not out there supporting any candidate for U.S. Senate, I think it’s pissy politics the Metro Democratic Club is playing.

Shumer committed to helping Crit fundraise during the primary I assume he is doing the same for Lunsford.
