Michael Cassaro’s campaign for U.S. Senate still seems to be struggling with FEC regulations.
Ted Shlechter, the campaign’s communications director and blogger at The Bridge, sent out another press release last night without the Federal Election Commission’s legally required disclaimer language. No where in the email or on the release were the words “Paid for by Cassaro for Senate.”
We wouldn’t harp on this again and again, but Cassaro has been in the race for nearly four months– since November. That’s plenty of time for a candidate to have read and understood every bit of campaign law on the books. Not to mention the communications director for a major federal campaign should probably have at least some sort of an idea about federal campaign basics– especially a political blogger.
On a somewhat-related note: what’s with constantly referring to Cassaro’s committee as the “Dr. Mike Cassaro campaign”? “Doctor” isn’t used on the ballot since it’s not part of his name. It’d make sense to use the name people will see when voting as often as possible. While Cassaro couldn’t be considered a serious candidate in any sense this year, it’s still a little sad to watch small slip-ups like this happen over and over again, making the guy look even less like a serious player.
