Not only did Governor Steve Beshear tell the press days ago that he wanted Bruce Lunsford to consider the senate race, he’s gone so far as to almost endorse him.
Beshear issued a press release today in response to Lunsford’s decision to run for U.S. Senate– something he hasn’t done for any other Democratic candidate in the race.
And Gov. Steve Beshear issued a statement in response to Lunsford’s filing — something Beshear had not done for previous Democratic candidates in the U.S. Senate race. The statement reads:
Last December, before any of the other Democratic candidates had decided to run, I called Bruce and asked him to consider running for the U.S. Senate. I felt that he had name recognition, the financial resources and the ability to appeal to a large cross-section of Kentuckians, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike, all of which would make him an exceptionally strong candidate. The other candidates may be able to develop those attributes, and I wish them well.”
“While I am not endorsing any candidate in the Democratic Primary for the U.S. Senate at this time, I am pleased that Bruce has agreed to throw his hat into the ring.”
So it’s official. No longer just a rumor. Bruce Lunsford is the establishment’s chosen candidate and that of Beshear. So much for not endorsing anyone, gubnuh.
