I was quiet disappointed with the Governor’s proposed budget regarding the funding of education at the elementary-High School levels. I am a Speech Language Pathologist in Kentucky’s school system. The issue of funding education, putting kids, first, teacher’s salaries, etc. always seems to get the “back burner” approach. We all talk about putting children first and wanting to keep the “most qualified and best” teachers in Ky., our children being first in Math and Science, “Leaving No Child Behind”, but without appropriate funding, these things cannot be accomplished! As an educator in the Commonwealth, I work long hours without compensation, take money from my own pocket to buy supplies and materials that are needed to perform my job, because by mid-year the funds have run out. We have our Family Resource Centers in the schools that help out needy children and families, whose budgets have been cut, possible cuts in personnel could be forth coming, but yet we are suppose to help all children to be “Proficient” by the year 2014. I am one who does not feel that a “Casino” is the answer to the “financial fiasco” that Kentucky finds it self in. I think the Governor needs to re-evaluate his proposed budget plan. All of our Senators and Representatives, I hope will stand up for their constituents who will be contacting them regarding their thoughts and concerns with the prosposed budget.
    Sincerely,
