More on Beshear Backing Lunsford

January 24th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Many of you have privately doubted our assertion for weeks that the Beshear Administration is pushing Bruce Lunsford to run for the U.S. Senate. In case you were also doubting our story from two days ago that included footage of Mark Hebert discussing the matter, here’s some more for you.

Pat Crowley interviewed Steve Beshear and got him to admit that he has encouraged Lunsford to run. Out the window goes Beshear’s promise to many that he wouldn’t meddle in the senate race.

UPDATE – Beshear encourages Lunsford to run

Gov. Steve Beshear said in an interview today that he has encouraged Lunsford to run.

“He called me about it,” Beshear said. “I told him he ought to consider it. He ran a credible race in the primary and I think by the race he ran – he ran a positive race – in a sense he partially rehabiliated himself with a lot of Democrats in the state that were down on him before.”

“He has the financial resources to make the race,” Beshear said.

There you have it. Beshear himself admitting that he supports and approves of a Lunsford candidacy. Thereby admitting he doesn’t have the balls to tell D.C. party “leadership” to take a hike. Completely forgetting that he wants to be re-elected in four years while absolutely alienating a majority of the Democratic Party.

The boys really are back in town.

I hate to sound like a broken record, as I have said these things on here before.

    But, this is important…

He evicted sick elderly patients from his nursing home to make way for wealthier patients with better insurance.

He spent millions of dollars attacking Ben Chandler (even after it was obvious he would be our nominee), and then endorsed Ernie Fletcher.

I would hope that if any Democrat called Beshear, that he’d encourage them to run. It is an open seat, after all. It might be a different story if, say, Beshear was encouraging Lunsford to challenge Yarmuth, but an open seat should be open to all challengers. Just because this blog and some others openly support Horne doesn’t mean he should get a walk into the general election or be the anointed candidate. I thought it was the Republicans who liked to be kingmakers and pre-select a nominee and discourage others from entering the primary.

Who said anything about allowing Horne to walk to victory or receive the holy Frankfort and D.C. anointment?

It’d take a completely fool not to recognize Bruce Lunsford’s serious faults as a candidate.

It’s telling that the majority of his recent campaign staff have deserted him in favor of another candidate. People turning down major dough to support an everyday man.

Anyone can run in the Democratic Primary. But for a Democratic Governor to encourage someone who supported the last Republican Governor in the Governor s race and has supported George W Bush, Bob Dole, Mitch McConnell, Jim Bunning, Anne Northup to the tune of over $47,000 in the last few years is irresponsible.
Beshear has lost all respect I may have had for him. I always did have reservations about anyone who as an attorney represented the Pay Day loan companies in Frankfort so they could charge high interest rates to people. Maybe he and Lunsford have more in common than we thought they did. Shame on Beshear!

Does the Governor really think that Democrats are sheep? Lunsford has run for statewide office two times, never getting over 21 percent of the vote. Sure he is a millionaire, who cares.
If I was going to vote for a Republican, personally I would rather vote for a real Republican not a fake Republican.
Bruce Lunsford is a fake Republican. Do not count me as a Democrat who would work for nominee Lunsford.
Personally I question Governor Beshears motivations in encourgaing Lunsford to run.

Lunsford is probably the only candidate in America who has proven you can’t ALWAYS buy an election.

And for any self-respecting Democrat who is thinking he’s not so bad, I encourage you to watch this:

I agree with Marion County. It seems like Beshear has other motives. I would sure like to know why Beshear has done this. Do not ask me to support Beshear in the future if Lunsford runs. It will be hard to trust him anymore.
