Hebert: Beshear Administration Backing Lunsford

January 22nd, 2008 · 7 Comments

On last Friday’s Comment on Kentucky, Mark Hebert revealed that members of Steve Beshear’s administration are backing Bruce Lunsford to run for U.S. Senate against Mitch McConnell. The show’s panel found it bizarre and Hebert went on to say Lunsford wouldn’t make it to Washington.

This won’t make too many dyed in the wool Democrats very happy to hear. Lends credibility to all the rumors floating around Frankfort for weeks.

Have a look:

I will have little respect for the Beshear Administration if they have indeed encouraged someone like Bruce Lunsford, who has given over $47,000 to Republicans like George W Bush, Bob Dole, Mitch McConnell, Anne Northup, Jim Bunning and Trey Greyson in the last few years.
If this is the vision that Beshear has for Kentucky, God help us.
Lunsford is a easy reelect for McConnell. Democrats will simply stay home. The only ones who would work for Lunsford would do so for a paycheck. He inspires no one. At least McConnell believes in what he believes in.
I hope Beshear is not playing petty politics here so he can run for McConnells seat in 6 years. Everyone knows about the Beshear-Chandler relationship as well. I for one will be angry of Beshear has encouraged Lunsford to run. He would get destroyed by McConnell. It all makes you wonder about motivations. It is just discouraging and you see why people get disillusioned with politics

The assertion is that members of Beshear’s administration are supporting Lunsford, not Beshear himself (but I will admit I haven’t watched the video because I am on dialup at the moment and it’s slow dialup.)

But at any rate, the fact that other Democrats are filing for this office and other prominent ones are backing a potential candidate who hasn’t filed yet tells me that contrary to the assertions here and on the other Web sites (what percentage of Kentuckians have ‘Net access and visit political sites, again????), there is no “consensus” candidate like many of you claim Horne is.

Anonymous, you’re wrong about the consensus candidate. It is indeed Horne.

Name one Democratic grassroots or netroots group that isn’t supporting Horne.

Two left-wing websites (this one and Bluegrass Roots) in a state where fewer than 50 percent of the adults use the Internet does not a consensus constitute.

I dont care about consensus anything. But I agree Lunsford would be a joke for McConnell to run against. He would eat him for dinner. 60-40

Anonymous, I guess you’re having fun amusing yourself with your faux-knowledge, but it’s not just two websites supporting Horne. Again, name one Democratic grassroots or netroots group that isn’t supporting Horne.

Perhaps you’ve been absent from the fray, but the political blogs do indeed influence the parties and the outcomes of primary votes, as views expressed in blogs filter out by word of mouth, and even media outlets pick up on stories initiated at blogs.

Further, your cooked up statistic about how many adults use the Internet is vaguely similar to the percentage who vote. Hmmmm….

How could anyone in our party actually be hoping this guy will get in?

He evicted sick elderly patients from his nursing home to make way for wealthier patients with better insurance.

He spent millions of dollars attacking Ben Chandler (even after it was obvious he would be our nominee), and then endorsed Ernie Fletcher.
