Why so much State money allocated to third world countries in the name of Economic Development?
The Commonwealth of Kentucky, IMO, is wasting money by having offices in third world countries. Well may not all are third world, but they certainly, IMO, are not needed assist the Commonwealth needs to produce jobs.
Brussels, Belgium
Guadalajara, Mexico
Tokyo Japan
Beijing, China
Santiago, Chili
The only expense that makes any sense at all is JAPAN. We know what happens when the Japanese come to the USA.
But, Beijing, Santiago, Guardalarja, Brussels.
Give me a break. It escapes me how our government can go to Beijing, China and open an office. There is very little market for new jobs coming from China. Besides the federal wage law would impact China if the did business in the USA.
Jeez, maybe my memory is just too poor. Wasn’t it Beijing China where the small frail man, stood in front of the tanks and dared them to run over him? It wasn’t pretty was it?
Now the Commonwealth of Kentucky has opened an office In China and it makes no economic sense, IMO.
And Mexico . . . Jeez, we don’t need labor relations with Mexico. But the reason we are in MEXICO is, that is where a large portion of the USA Fortune 500 are located in a country where they can find few environmental regulations, few taxes and slave wages.
Santiago, Chili. This is another third world country with few regulations and a cheap labor market. I can’t understand how the planners for the ED Cabinet can see any benefit to producing jobs in KENTUCKY by having an ED office in Santiago.
And what does it cost to maintain and staff these offices.
Whatever the cost, for the exception of Japan they are all a terrible waste of taxpayer money are only WINDOW DRESSING to make it appear, that is called political perception, that our government is working hard, in many parts of the Globe to bring new jobs. I don’t know who thought up this idea, but it sure was a political person.
As a business decision, trying to maximize efforts and acquire the best bang for the buck, this kind of needless expense would never pass the board.
If Steve Beshear, wants to help Kentucky and bring in more jobs, then the best thing he can do , IMO, is to close these needless offices and put more money into building jobs from within the state. Sure wish I knew what the operating expenses are for these needless efforts. It just does not, IMO, have any reasonable business logic, other than political profiling.
