Breaking: AIPAC Fundraiser Moved

September 5th, 2007 · 9 Comments

LEO‘s Managing Editor Stephen George just confirmed that Jewish Hospital has decided not to host the September 10th AIPAC fundraiser featuring controversial figure Dan Senor. Senor is affiliated with Fox News and the group Vets for Freedom.

A source with Jewish Hospital revealed to Page One earlier today that many physicians were upset about being invited to the event and expressed concern about its location. Though not confirmed, one surgical group allegedly threatened to cancel surgeries in protest.

Barbara Mackovich, spokesperson for Jewish Hospital, told George the event will instead be hosted at the Louisville home of Bill Yarmuth.

Yarmuth is the brother of U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY 3) and is CEO & President of the health care company Almost Family.

Why would Billy Yarmuth host Senor while he is running ads to damage Yarmuth’s brother?

Bill Yarmuth’s bottom line is money. His brother (John) is one of the few Democrats he’s ever supported.

Bill Yarmuth’s bottom line may be money – that I will not dispute. However, while he has supported a number of Republicans, he has also given generously to Democrats over several years.

He has made contributions to Crit Luallen, Jonathan Miller (both for Treasurer and Governor), the State Democratic Party in at least two different years, Fred Cowan, Paul Patton, Joe Corradino, Larry Clark, Jerry Abramson, Irv Maze (both as JCA and Lt. governor), Steve Henry, Bob Henderson, Ron Weston, Chris Gorman, Ben Chandler, and others.

These contributions runs into the thousands of dollars.

As for the original question of why support someone who doesn’t support your brother, someone else can address that.

    Jeff,

Let’s not forget that Bill Yarmuth primarily contributes to right-wing Jewish candidates. Nothing wrong with that, but his dollars primarily go to individuals who push the pro-Israel, anti-everything else agenda. Them’s the apples.

Contributing to Steve Henry is crazy no matter how you cut it. Merely supporting him through illegality and controversy is enough to ruin credibility.

“As for the original question of why support someone who doesn’t support your brother, someone else can address that.”

    - the issue is not about someone who simply doesnt support his brother, its about someone is is funding ads attacking him – something much worse…

“Let’s not forget that Bill Yarmuth primarily contributes to right-wing Jewish candidates.”

    - this is completely false. not a single one of his donations has gone to right wing jewish candidates

    Troubling and confusing!

Has to be a reasonable explanation for this.

And, the anti semantic remarks were ugly.

  • 8 Jake // Sep 7, 2007 at 9:35 am

    Where are the anti-semitic remarks?

  • 9 anonymous // Sep 7, 2007 at 9:37 am

Louisvillian at 4:05 – not a single donor you listed was a “right-wing Jewish candidate” as you previously claimed..making your previous remark 100 percent false.
